Same Day Surgery
Spending the night in the hospital is no longer necessary for a majority of patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. With our A.V.A.T.A.R® program , 80-90% of our patients can return home safely on the day of surgery and recover in the comfort of home. Same day joint replacement can either be done in an outpatient surgery center or in the hospital outpatient surgery department. In either case, after being cleared by the medical team and physical therapy, patients can return home just a few hours after their operation.
There are many benefits to same day joint replacement. Being in the comfort of home you will sleep better, have less stress and less noise. You will not have tubes and lines connected to you and you will be able to control your pain in real time rather than ask the nursing staff for medication. You can eat home-cooked food and mobilize without having to call for help. Multiple studies have now shows that same day joint replacement is not only safe but possibly safer.

Multiple Benefits are Associated with Same Day Joint Replacement Surgery
Outpatient joint replacement surgery has become increasingly popular in recent years as more and more patients and healthcare providers have come to appreciate its many benefits. Compared to traditional inpatient joint replacement surgery, outpatient joint replacement offers a range of advantages, including lower risk, lower cost, faster recovery, and improved patient satisfaction. In this blog post, we'll explore each of these benefits in more detail and explain why outpatient joint replacement may be a good option for many patients.
Lower Risk
One of the primary benefits of outpatient joint replacement surgery is that it is associated with a lower risk of complications and adverse events. This is because outpatient surgery is typically performed in a dedicated outpatient surgery center that is equipped with the latest technology and staffed by highly trained healthcare professionals who specialize in joint replacement surgery. In addition, because outpatient surgery centers are focused solely on outpatient procedures, they are often able to provide a higher level of individualized care and attention to each patient.
Lower Cost
Another benefit of outpatient joint replacement surgery is that it is often significantly less expensive than traditional inpatient joint replacement surgery. This is because outpatient surgery centers have lower overhead costs than hospitals, and therefore are able to pass those savings on to patients. In addition, because patients are able to recover at home rather than in a hospital, they are typically not charged for the additional room and board costs associated with inpatient stays.
Faster Recovery
Perhaps the most significant benefit of outpatient joint replacement surgery is that it allows patients to recover more quickly than they would with traditional inpatient surgery. Because outpatient surgery is typically less invasive than inpatient surgery, patients experience less pain, swelling, and discomfort following the procedure. In addition, because patients are able to recover at home, they are able to begin rehabilitation and physical therapy more quickly than they would in a hospital setting. This allows patients to regain their mobility and independence more quickly, and to return to their normal activities of daily living sooner.
Improved Patient Satisfaction
Finally, outpatient joint replacement surgery is often associated with higher levels of patient satisfaction than traditional inpatient surgery. This is because patients are able to recover in the comfort and privacy of their own homes, and are able to receive individualized care and attention from their healthcare providers. In addition, because patients are able to return to their normal activities more quickly, they often experience less disruption to their daily lives, which can lead to greater satisfaction with the overall surgical experience.
In conclusion, outpatient joint replacement surgery offers a range of benefits over traditional inpatient surgery. While not all patients will be candidates for outpatient surgery, many will find that it is a safe and effective option for their joint replacement needs.

Top 5 reasons to avoid a hospital in favor of a surgery center for Total Joint Replacement
While both surgery centers and hospitals can perform joint replacement surgeries, there are several reasons why someone might choose a surgery center over a hospital. Here are five top reasons:
- Specialization and Expertise: Surgery centers that focus on joint replacements often have specialized teams and equipment dedicated to orthopedic procedures. The surgeons, nurses, and staff are experienced in joint replacements and may have a higher level of expertise compared to a general hospital, where they handle a wide range of medical conditions.
- Efficiency and Convenience: Surgery centers typically have streamlined processes that allow for more efficient scheduling and shorter waiting times compared to hospitals. They often have dedicated orthopedic operating rooms and can focus solely on joint replacement surgeries. This can result in a more convenient experience for patients, with fewer delays and a smoother workflow.
- Cost Savings: Surgery centers generally have lower overhead costs compared to hospitals, which can translate into lower fees and out-of-pocket expenses for patients. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with high deductible health insurance plans or those without comprehensive insurance coverage.
- Reduced Risk of Infections: Hospitals can have a higher risk of infections due to the presence of various illnesses and germs in the environment. Surgery centers typically have stricter infection control protocols, including rigorous cleaning procedures, to minimize the risk of infections. As a result, the chances of post-operative complications may be lower in surgery centers.
- Personalized Care and Attention: Surgery centers often offer a more personalized and patient-centered approach to care. Since they typically handle a smaller volume of cases compared to hospitals, the staff can provide more individualized attention and spend more time with each patient. This can contribute to a more satisfying experience and better communication between the healthcare team and the patient.
An increasing number of patients are eligible for outpatient joint replacement surgery, and the trend for more of these procedures to migrate to the outpatient setting. Recovering in the comfort of your own home under your own control is empowering and leads to higher patients satisfaction scores.
